Jo Yoon-hee: “If My Daughter Wants to Live with Her Father Lee Dong-gun, I’ll 100% Let Her Go”

While cleaning her daughter Roa’s room and examining Roa’s drawings, Jo Yoon-hee discovered something that made her gasp in shock. She was startled by a rather provocative drawing of a naked soldier. The situation raised questions about whether Roa, who is just in first grade, had already become aware of sexuality. The drawing depicted “a soldier seeing the princess’s private parts” and was even taped to the wall.

Jo Yoon-hee expressed concern, saying, “I wonder if she saw something somewhere,” and after the initial shock, she wondered, “Why did she draw this kind of picture?”, showing worry about whether something might have happened to Roa. The panel members responded by saying, “At eight years old, they can understand (about sex),” adding that “these days, even elementary school girls in lower grades are getting their first periods, things are happening earlier.”
Meanwhile, Jo Yoon-hee was curious about Roa’s psychological state after finding drawings of faceless people and the grim reaper. She approached her daughter cautiously to ask about the drawings directly. When asked about why she drew the naked soldier, her daughter responded embarrassedly that “It was made when I was younger,” and when asked if she “just drew it because it came to mind,” she agreed.
Subsequently, she visited an art therapy center for her daughter’s psychological evaluation. They proceeded with drawing as a natural way to assess her psychological state.

While Roa was briefly away, they analyzed the psychological implications of her drawings. Regarding the nude drawing, the expert explained that “It’s natural for first graders to start recognizing gender differences between males and females.”
The expert noted that the daughter’s psychological state appeared unstable, indicating she had a high fear of not being acknowledged by others and felt pressure to perform well. The specialist also pointed out that Jo Yoon-hee was psychologically dependent on Roa, which could burden the child. This was evident in how her drawings always prioritized Roa in every situation.
Particularly noteworthy was Jo Yoon-hee’s surprising confession: “My child is so precious to me now, and I want to be a warm and good mother, but if she wants to live with her father after living with me, I will let her go 100%,” adding, “Even if it hurts me, I want to give her what she wants.”
